U.S. Transportation Command is now the single manager of the Defense Personal Property Program (DP3), which oversees the Defense Department’s household goods and privately-owned vehicle shipment programs.
Since 2009, the Army’s Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, a Transcom component, directed the DP3 and Transcom guided the Defense Personal Property System (DPS) and the DP3’s electronic application (move.mil) website. Administered by two separate units, the DP3 and its web interface, did not operate as effectively or efficiently as they could, prompting the consolidation of both components under Transcom.
Program improvements will gradually occur, including an update to move.mil, with most improvements planned to be in place for the Summer 2018 peak moving season. Planned website upgrades include making relocation procedural tips more user-friendly, as well as providing key contact information for local assistance.
