Home Security for the Holidays

December 6, 2019 by AHRN Blog Team 8 Comments

A family getting ready to celebrate the holidays at home.

Ah, the holiday season. The time of year when many people travel to spend time with their families and loved ones. Or travel to avoid spending time with families and loved ones. Whatever the purpose, members of the military community are more likely than most to travel for the holiday season. After all, you’re usually stationed pretty far from both your extended families and most places worth vacationing. So, if you’re reading this you’re likely either planning on taking part in a big family reunion somewhere snowy or spending some time on a beach somewhere far, far away. And, as exciting as a trip can be, it comes with its fair share of headaches. Not least of all is the stress of leaving your home and valuables unattended. But we’ve got some suggestions on how to alleviate those all-too-common fears.

Outdoor Cameras

An outdoor security camera for a home hidden among holiday decorations.

Probably the most common home protection device and with good reason: they are effective, easy to set up, and higher quality ones get cheaper and more enhanced every day. Sometimes just seeing one of these is enough to make a would-be burglar or front door package snatcher think twice about targeting your home and look for easier pickings. But even if that doesn’t stop them, or if you happen to go with one of the more concealed models, having a camera (or multiple cameras) set up will probably ensure the culprit gets caught and your stuff comes home.

Video Doorbells

These are one of the newest rages in home security devices and often fall under the category of “smart doorbells” when it comes to web searches/shopping for them. They put an all-seeing eye right at your home’s main point of entry. A handy tool whether you’re off on vacation, at work, or even at home, these devices let you see who’s on your stoop and what they’re up to. Most of them can even be monitored remotely from a computer, phone, or tablet, which means you can always be sure of exactly what’s happening in your front yard. And some of them even let you hear sound and talk through them, which is certainly a handy feature.

Comprehensive Alarm System

Home security systems with highly sophisticated alarms have been around for years, but the technology is always improving. So, if you haven’t owned, or even thought about owning, one in a while, you may be surprised with just how versatile and advanced they have become. From straightforward coded keypads to all-encompassing security nets tied to a monitoring service and every smart device you own; a comprehensive system can help give you absolute peace of mind whenever you leave your home. There’s no better way to ensure your living space and possessions are safe and sound than devices that keep a watchful eye on them 24/7.

The Total Package

Santa Claus, with the help of ADT, protecting your home for the holidays.

If all of these devices, geegaws, and doodads are starting to sound like an expensive pile of complicated electronics, you’re in luck. There are a whole bunch of great security companies that provide package deals of all kinds. And, with the holiday season (to include Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which definitely count as all-American holidays) upon us, some of these brands are likely to offer some great discounts on what are already smart deals on equipment, systems, installation, and related services. Take, for example, the nation’s largest security company: ADT. They’ve got a great Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal well worth considering. It includes the installation of both an outdoor camera and a video doorbell for free with a 3-year subscription. That means you get back a solid chunk of money to spend on gifts for that family you plan to visit/avoid. And, with ADT protecting your home, you won’t need to fret about it while you’re off doing that visiting/avoiding

Hi, Great Article ! Thanks for share this.

Thanks for pointing out that I need to make sure that I invest in smart locks and the right doors for the security of my home.
Current home security frameworks are likewise advancing. Brilliant locks on entryways and windows permit clients to protect their property with their voice, and applications permit clients to lock their property and secure their windows distantly, in the occasion they neglected to secure prior to leaving the home. Past this, shrewd cautions are additionally ready to send alarms to cell phones, and numerous doorbells presently accompany the ability of sending a video feed to your portable, permitting you to get bundles and talk straightforwardly to guests without being at home.
