The Summer 2018 PCS move season is complete and due to an increase in complaints, improvements to the household goods move process are underway. The US Transportation Command is planning a number of changes to improve the household goods move process for military members based on feedback received this past summer, mainly a significant increase in reports of lost or damaged household goods. US Transportation Command has announced the following changes are currently in process to address these issues.
- Increasing the number of Quality Insurance Inspectors at base Personal Property Offices. The goal is to conduct on-site inspections at 50% of all active packouts occurring on a daily basis.
- Starting in December 2018, all military members will have the option of watching their household goods get packed into sealed crates. Previously this option was only available to OCONUS moves. The only exception to this process change is confirmed door to door deliveries.
- TRANSCOM is currently updating the Defense Personal Property System, with a new and improved system planned for release in Summer 2019.
In addition to these changes, the DoD has created an advisory team of service providers, TRANSCOM officials, military members and military spouses to continue evaluating ongoing process improvements.
