While the traditional way to honor July 4th is with grilled meat, good times, and legally blowing things up without having to trek to the nearest live fire range, there’s really no wrong way to celebrate the anniversary of our nation’s independence. But a great part of this holiday that everybody can probably agree on is the wide range of sales and discounts that come with it, particularly for the military community.
After all, America came to be partially out of frustration with paying too much in taxes, so what’s more patriotic than saving some money? In that spirit, here are some nationwide brands with discounts just for the military, veterans, et al this July 4th (and, in many cases, year round):
Sprint
While most mobile networks offer military discounts to one degree or another, they’ve got one of the absolute best bargains best: 50% off for family lines. If they’re network coverage works for you, this is quite a steal.
AMC Theaters
Movie tickets are increasingly expensive these days, but there’s still something special about seeing a film on the big screen. And 15% off at AMC makes a trip to the theater a pretty enticing way to enjoy some summer entertainment (plus a few hours of free air conditioning).
Carnival Cruises
If travel is more your idea of a great summer break, Carnival offers 10% off for active duty and retirees. This deal applies to the Canadian Armed Forces as well, so this could be a fun way to meet some friendly cohorts to the north over a fresh seafood buffet on the open seas.
Lots of Hotels
If travel sounds good but you’re not a boat person (or you’re in the Navy or Coast Guard and need a break from boats), there are great discounts out there for land-based vacations. Most major hotel chains (Ramada, Choice Hotels, Hyatt, Motel 6, Red Roof Inn, etc) offer military and veteran discounts in the 10-15% range.
Plenty of Clothing Brands
Whatever your personal style, chances are there is a brand or two out there with your kind of duds offering discounts for the military community. Nike, Under Armor, Lululemon, Hanes, and many, many others have great deals worth checking out.
Blue Star Museums
This is a truly wonderful program run by Blue Star Families. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day every year, thousands of museums all across the US offer free admission to active duty military families. Check out their list and see what great institutions participate near you.
Cinnabon
Sure, it may hurt you come your next weigh in, but that smell is hard to resist. Especially at a 15% discount. And if you want to double down on the unhealthy, most fast food brands offer military discounts of their own. But if you do indulge yourself over the long weekend, we’re sure you’ll start a hardcore PT routine on Monday, right?
